Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
In short
The Centered app does not collect, transmit or share any personal data. It has no networking code, no accounts and no analytics; every step – detection, preview and export – runs on your iPhone. Photo library access is used only to load the video you choose and to save the finished one. Purchases are handled by Apple; the developer never sees your payment data.
This is a translation of the German Datenschutzerklärung; both say the same. If they ever differ, the German version applies.
1. Controller
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Sebastian Schilling
Gräfin-Imma-Straße 7
44797 Bochum
Germany
Email: centered@sebastianschilling.com
No data protection officer has been appointed; the legal requirements for one are not met.
2. The Centered app
2.1 No collection, no transmission
Centered processes your videos only locally on your device. Person detection (Apple Vision), preview and export run offline on the iPhone. The app contains no code for network connections at all: there is no server run by the developer, no user accounts, no sign-up, no cloud storage, no analytics or crash-reporting services, no advertising and no tracking. No personal data is transmitted to the developer or to third parties.
This is declared in the app’s privacy manifest (tracking: no; data types collected: none) and matches the information on the app’s App Store page.
2.2 Access to your photo library
The app asks for access to your photo library – to read the video you select and to write the finished video. Only you make the selection; the app does not search or analyze your library. You can change or withdraw access at any time in iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Photos”. If a video is stored only in iCloud, the operating system downloads it – a process between your device and your own Apple account that the app is not part of.
2.3 Data stored on your device
The app stores on your device: the results of person detection including your corrections (so that a reopened video does not have to be analyzed again), thumbnails of recently edited videos for the “Recent” list, your settings (for example sound on/off) and, during export, the generated video file for a short time. This data never leaves the device and is removed completely when you delete the app.
2.4 Purchases in the App Store
The one-time purchase that removes the watermark is handled entirely through Apple’s in-app purchase system. Apple is the contracting party for the purchase and is independently responsible for the data it processes. The developer of this app receives no payment data, no Apple ID and no names or addresses of buyers – only anonymous, aggregated sales figures from Apple. Apple’s processing is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
2.5 Statistics from Apple
Apple provides developers with aggregated, non-personal statistics in “App Analytics” (such as the number of downloads or crashes) – only from users who have agreed to share this with Apple. This analysis takes place at Apple, not in the app; the developer receives no individual data and cannot identify anyone. You can withdraw your consent at any time in iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Analytics & Improvements”.

3.1 Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, technically necessary access data is processed – as with any web server – in particular your IP address, the date and time of access, the page requested, the amount of data transferred, the browser type and the operating system.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest lies in providing this site securely and reliably without running a server of our own. Processing takes place on our behalf under a data processing agreement (GitHub Data Protection Agreement). This involves a transfer to the USA; GitHub bases it on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and is also certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Details are in the GitHub Privacy Statement. We have no influence on how long GitHub keeps the logs; we do not access this data ourselves.
3.2 No cookies, no third-party content
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. No fonts, scripts, maps, videos or other content are loaded from other servers – every part of the site is served from this website’s own server. There is no contact form and no sign-in. That is why no consent banner is needed.
3.3 Contact by email
If you write to us, we process your email address and the content of your message only to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for questions about a purchase, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (interest in answering enquiries). Messages are deleted once they are no longer needed and no statutory retention periods apply.
4. Recipients of your data
We do not pass on data beyond the parties named here. The only recipients are:
- GitHub, Inc. – hosting of this website (processor),
- Apple Inc. and Apple Distribution International Ltd. – distribution of the app and handling of purchases (independent controllers),
- Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (Google Workspace) – receiving and sending support emails (processor).
5. Your rights
Within the legal requirements, you have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), as well as a right to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR). To exercise them, contact the address given in section 1.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the authority responsible for us: Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.
